A reaction occurs and copper metal may get corroded due to the humidity or moistness from the food. When corroded due to the oxides and moistness , copper may make the food toxic.

So, it is advised not to store food in copper vessels.

Additional note: Aluminium kind of has the same effect. So, do not store food in aluminium vessels either.

Jacques Pepin whips egg whites in a copper bowl in lieu of adding cream of tartar or lemon juice. I think the reason that whipping method works is related to the answer to this question and likely has to do with electron movement between the food and the metal and vice versa.

How copper can be conbinate with others elements?

Copper can be combined with other elements to form alloys. Copper is melted down and additional elements are added in a desired ratio. For example zinc can be added to copper to form brass alloy. If tin is added to copper you make bronze. The trick is to heat the copper to a point where another element can be absorbed into the copper. Depending on the material you are trying to mix with the copper it will be brought in at the atomic level (like salt in water) or will form something like a suspension (muddy water)If you want me to get more descriptive on how the thermal chemistry works and what happens in the crystalline structure feel free to say so. Tried to keep it simple. Hope this helps

How many cups of copper sulfate crystals equal a pound?

If it' relatively fine ground copper sulfate crystals, NOT ROCKS and NOT FINE POWDER 1 cup of copper sulfate fine crystal should weigh approximately .7 US pounds. that number should be good enough to calculate copper sulfate to be used to treat a cesspool but not close enough to calculate chemical reactions. A 300 gallon cesspool requires 3 pounds of copper sulfate twice a year to keep tree roots from growing.
