An estuary is one of the most biologically productive areas on the planet. It's similar to a coral reef.
Many animals, particularly fish etc, are born and raised in an estuary, even if they don't live there as adults.
As a result, many animals that feed on them also live there.
If you were to pollute one of these areas, you'd kill plants, fish, birds, insects etc.
It's sort of like a nursery for the food chain.
