Sodium is a very highly reactive metal, so it has to be extended using electrolysis from it's rock salt. The process of electrolysis has to be invented before it could be estranged and it wasn't invented until around 1807.

Light given off by electric discharge through sodium vapor?

The light given by sodium vapor depends on whether it is a low-pressure or high-pressure lighting system. Low pressure sodium lamps produce a yellow-green light and are less-common today, while high-pressure sodium-halogen produces an orange light. Both types of sodium lighting uses the element sodium, which is heated by a current flow until it becomes luminescent.

Is sodium fattening?

Sodium is a mineral in salt which has an affinity for water. Increasing your intake of salt brings with it extra water therefore making a person heavier. It is water, however and NOT FAT. Therefore is temporary until your kidneys excrete the extra water it does NOT MAKE YOU FAT in the sense that you are storing extra fat deposits.

What is a word equation for the reaction of sodium and water?

Sodium reacts exothermically with water. When it reacts small pea-sized pieces will bounce across the surface of the water until they are consumed by it, whereas large pieces will explode. While sodium reacts with water at room temperature, the sodium piece melts with the heat of the reaction to form a sphere, if the reacting sodium piece is large enough. The reaction with water produces very caustic sodium hydroxide and highly flammable hydrogen gas.

Why was sodium not extracted until the 1800s while gold has been used for thousand of years?

Gold exist as native element, with a specific color, is not reactive - as a consequence it is simply to be identified. Sodium is very reactive, form many minerals and methods to be separated doesn't exist before 1 800.

If a Buddhist experienced suffering how would he explain it?

Suffering is a normal condition. If you have a body, you will experience suffering. There is no escaping suffering until you become fully awakened and leave your physical body behind. Buddha describes the path to become fully awakened. Full awakening and natural events will eventuate complete freedom from suffering. Buddhists are not free of suffering any more than anyone else, until they have an awakening experience. Then, suffering will begin to diminish, however, suffering does not fully extinguish until one if fully awakened and left the body.

How is sodium sulfide produced?

Na2S is produced by passing H2S gas through a sodium hydroxide solution until weak alkaline pH, followed by evaporation of water and crystallisation.H2S + 2NaOH --> Na2S + 2H2OHOWEVER :Don't do this by yourself unless you're have fully safe laboratory conditions: H2S is very toxic!

How do you make dry ice with sodium acetate?

You have to boil and heat water and add sodium acetate (a powder easy to find online), and mix it until it is fully dissolved. Then pour the water in a glass and put the glass in the fridge. After 2 hours, the liquid is ready. You pour the liquid into and kind of place, or leave it in the glass. Then, you put a tiny little part in your finger of sodium acetate, and touch the liquid. It will then turn into dry ice.
