According to Chase Bank/Chicago Int'l currency dept. where I recently took "my" own 5000 Lirasi as stated herein - currency in Turkey is handled far differently than in most countries. Seems Turkey "switches" every few years to make older currency invalid. The explanation is a bit more involved but for simplicity purposes if the bill you are holding falls inside of the last five years you can get

as much as $2,000. USD. However....If the bill is dated older than that......sorry you're out of luck. I have had mine for 6 years in a book and was sooooo excited only to nearly cry in front of the teller when telling me I was one year too late!

You can look up dozens of these bills on "Amazon" where many of these are sold as collectors items. It can also give you a clearer idea of the worth of your bill.
