In Economic Geography, we study the (locational, organizational and behavioral) principles and processes associated with the spatial allocation of scarce (human, man-made and natural) resources (which are also distributed spatially) and the spatial patterns and (direct and indirect, social, environmental and economic) consequences resulting from such allocations.

The economic geography of a place (usually a country or group of countries) refers to the makeup of the economies of that place. Specifically, it refers to the relative contributions of various economic industries of a place to the overall economy.

For instance, a country may have what is called a "exporter" economic geography, in that it's economy primarily consists of industries which produce goods intended to be exported from that country.

When looking at a country as a whole, the economic geography will show where particular industries are most important to the local economy, and also how each of those local economies meld together to produce a country-wide (or region-wide) economic picture. For example, looking at the economic geography of the United States, will show that heavy manufacturing is mostly concentrated in the South and Great Lakes region, that large-scale agriculture is dominant in the Midwest, smaller-scale dairy farming is big in the Mid Atlantic and Western states, Lumber is significant in the Pacific Northwest and Appalachian areas, and Financial Services is huge in New England, Coastal Mid Atlantic, and California areas.
