Is a mixed economy the same as a market economy?

No. When we say "market economy," we likely mean to say a free market economy-an economy unfettered with government policy interventions. This is usually stated in opposition to a planned command economy-planned by government personnel. Neither of these extremes exist in the real world. World economies are mixed economies. The difference between countries is the degree to which they are mixed. Economies such as Cuba and the former Soviet Union tend toward the command economy whilst economies such as Hong Kong and Singapore are cited as the freest market economies.

Does a truly free market exist in most democratic countries?

It depends on what you mean. 'Democratic' describes the political framework of a country, where market structures are a function of an economic approach. I'd think, though, that all developed countries, regardless of political ideology, use, for example, subsidies as a tool for moderating fluctuations in components within an economy, or to encourage development of new economies, such as agricultural ethanol, or alternative energy. Economies are incredibly complex, and so in a developed country, a truly free market these days would quickly disintegrate, much as would a truly democratic society.

What economics and political symtem have evolves to answer the basic questions of economics?

The three economic questions are:What to produce, how to produce, and for whom to produce. There are three main systems that have developed to answer those questions:Traditional economies (economies that answer those questions the same way as their ancestors did) examples are Native American cultures and African tribes.Market economies (where consumers decide what, the producers decide how, and price and income decide for whom) example = JapanCommand/ centrally planned economies (the government decides the answers to these questions) example = USSR and ChinaMost of these economies do not exist in pure form. They exist as mixed economies. For example the United States which has mainly a market economy with some government control and intervention. As far as political systems, democracy/republic works with mixed, market, and traditional, also with command sometimes.Communism is the system that goes with a command/centrally planned economy.Fascism attempts to go between market and command.

What would your future be like if you lived in a traditional economy?

India and it's caste system. You are born into a certain realm of career choices and a distinct class and lifestyle. Traditional economies exist also (at the most fundemental level) in rural areas dependant upon subsistence farming and the community. Examples of this would be rural Brazil, if your father was a farmer, you are a farmer, if your father raised cattle, you raise cattle. On the other hand, if your father was "mayor" (or the equivalent), hey, you're mayor.

What countries have a command ecomony?

Nowadays - very few. Command economies still exist in Cuba, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Iran, N. Korea and Burma. Command, or control, economies are not as flexible, efficient or responsive as market based "free" or "mixed" economies and have largely been proven unsuccessful. China, Russia are examples of command economies to benefit the collective rather than the individual for ideological reasons. Iraq under Saddam Hussein was an example of a command economy based on the whims of a dictator who wanted to control every aspect of his country's life.

Is Russia a communist state or a socialist state?

No. As a follow on from Glasnost and Perestroika in the 1980's, the USSR ceased to exist in 1991 and the 15 constituent republics, including Russia, became democratic countries with market economies, some more successfully than others. Many coountrys now strive to become non comunist.
