Steel cents were issued in 1943, during World War II, because copper was needed for the war effort. They're a more obvious curiosity than copper pennies, but they're not necessarily worth more.

About a billion steel cents were minted so even today they're usually worth less than 50¢ in average condition. Copper (actually bronze) wheat cents were minted from 1909 to 1942 and from 1944 to 1958 so values can differ very greatly - anywhere from a few cents to thousands of dollars due to how many different dates and mint marks were issued over that half-century.
