The Miwok, named due to the areas they lived in such as Bay Miwok, the Olamentke or Coast Miwok, the Bodega Bay and Marin Miwok etc., bartered various Natural Resources indigent to their locality. Far and widespread throughout North America, bartered items from the least industrialized to the most developed of these Native Americans were acorns, obsidian, raw copper, hides, dried meats/fish, pipestone, tobacco, corn, beans, salt, paint pigments, medicinal roots/plants, and shells. In many villages, the shell was used as currency for bartering. Often a man would wear it around his neck to show his wealth.
