Since 2009 SARPCCO has officially merged with the SADC, although this has been a longer process and one that remains a process. The renegotiation fo the SARPCCO consitution under SADC saw structural changes in terms of the names of sub-structures - the Permanent Coordinating Committee becoming a sub-committee - and all members of SADC automatically being granted membership to SARPCCO. This also closed the membership of SARPCCO and integrated SARPCCO more officially into the territory of SADC consisting of 15 member states. SARPCCO as a structure was taken up into the Organ and under the revised SIPO document falls under the newly added Police component. SARPCCO thus becomes the lead insitution for police issues in the region as well as an important stakeholder in the public security component of SIPO II. Although the main focus of SARPCCO is on cross-border crime operations, training and capacity building, SARPCCO has become a key insitution in supporting training for peacekeeping missions through the Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre in Harare.
