A Bachelor of Arts in Economics is considered by some to be an intelligent middle ground between Social Sciences, hard sciences, and general career-preparation. For example, many in the United States and throughout the world claim that Social Sciences, i.e., Liberal Arts are overly romanticized, in so far as they are the areas of study which were traditionally valued the most amongst ancient societies. These are typically the creative fields, which allow for anybody to challenge anything as long as they follow the prescribed rules in constructing sound (cogent) arguments. Examples of this "art" in practice, i.e., the workplace would include a lawyer creatively arguing on behalf of his client, or a journalist taking an unusual look at the economy, in order to broaden the horizons of his readership.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, you have the hard sciences. The universal language of math both applied and theoretical/experimental, chemistry, Biology and more. Unfortunately, studying only math or chemistry as an undergraduate student might not adequately prepare somebody for workplace, where you almost always have to deal with people and have some creative conversational/argumentative skills to even obtain a job.
Economics however, is considered by many to be a perfect mix of the two worlds, i.e., the creative, interpretative, emotional aspects of social sciences, combined with the quantitative and highly analytical aspects of hard sciences such as applied mathematics or quantum physics.
These are just a few reasons why a degree in economics might be a good choice for an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Upon graduation you have arguably more options than anybody else, as you are probably well versed in everything from political science, public administration to mathematics, logic, business, philosophy, management, accounting, finance and more.
