How can globalisation be stopped?

It can't, unless your talking about from a single countries perspective. If that's the case, you can stop it by closing the boders completely to trade. Don't let goods out or into the country. In addition, you would have to prevent outside firms from providing services within a country such as a call center. Why would you want to stop globalization? Globalization is a good thing as individual countries can perform the production processes they do best and export that production to countries in exchange for something they can do better.

Why do countries impose trade barriers?

Government imposed restrictions on international trade, or sanctions, have been introduced to protect their countries doing trade. The most common sanctions used are those to stop or deter terrorism. Trade restrictions on weapons, and other materials used to make weapons are very common among many countries. Other restrictions involve tariffs, or taxes on imports imposed by governments, which have been introduced in order to raise funds. There are many different types of tariffs used, from protection of an industry in a country, to simply raising revenue. A Quota is a government policy that limits imports of a product to a certain number of units. All of these items can restrict international trade and increase production costs.
