In the United States, my knowledge base, WWII had ended in 1945 and all most of the military personal were coming home from overseas. The Industry in the United States had the benefit of all the modernization and inventions created during WWII. You had all the money the Service personal had, the use of Aluminum and Plastics which created many opportunities for business and the public. Car sales jumped at a rate higher then in the early 1920's. Add to this the research institutes continuing to develop new technology and Propaganda running at full steam, making people want things instead of buying on need. All these reason's created a large flow of cash, which causes the economy to soar, which is only good if the average person has the ability to say within their means.

Though during the early 1950s the American economy was negatively affected by inflation—prices were rising, currency was losing its value, and a recession was at hand—these problems were relatively short-lived. By the mid-1950s, the nation began to enjoy the fruits of economic boom and prosperity.
The 1950s was called a time of the affluent society due to America's strong economic growth and rising middle-class prosperity. This decade saw high levels of consumer spending, increased homeownership, and the expansion of the suburbs. Many Americans experienced a higher standard of living and had more disposable income to spend on goods and services.
The late 1950s refers to the time period from about 1957 through 1959. (The photo above is "American Bandstand," a popular teen program during the late 1950s.) The early 1950s would be the time period from about 1950-1953, while the mid-1950s are the period of time from about 1954-1956.
