Walter Burley Griffin, the american architect was commissioned with the work of Tagore Library, University of Lucknow in 1935. After this commission he received various projects for the Raja of Jehangirabad and the Raja of Mehmoodabad. However he is best known for his role in designing Canberra, the capital city of Australia. His wife Marion Mahony Griffin was also an architect.
He has also been credited with the development of the L-shaped floor plan, the carport and an innovative use of reinforced concrete.
Griffin died in 1937 and was buried in the Christian Cemetry in Lucknow.
