I have been employed with the same company for 21 years. I was fired today due to a "Hostile environment" Because of the "tone of my voice" towards an employee. Im I entitled to severance pay?

This depends. Under the law, employers are not required to provide severance pay unless any of the following circumstances are present:

  • This is provided for in the written employment contract
  • There was an promise made to the employee (either oral or in an employee handbook) to give such severance pay
  • There is a tradition in the workplace to give such
  • State laws that impose payment of severance pay in certain conditions (lay-off, etc.)
