Any time a nipple bleeds, whether it's due to breastfeeding, chafing, or seemingly no reason at all, it's time to see someone. If there has been no trauma of the breast that has caused it to do so, it's especially important to seek physician help/advice immediately. There is a possibility that it's related to a tumor or other serious medical condition in the breast (the older you have children, the higher the risk that it's a sign of cancer) and must be tested and dealt with ASAP. During pregnancy, it's usually difficult to diagnose and treat because the health of both mother and baby must be considered. If it is breast cancer, the type that shows up during pregnancy can be particularly aggressive, so speed and accuracy of diagnosis is key to surviving to see that baby grow up.

Don't take a chance. Err on the side of caution. If your doctor isn't concerned, get a second opinion.
