The Bush twins, Barbara and Jenna, attended private schools for their education from grades 1-12. They began their schooling at the prestigious Preston Hollow Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, and later attended the all-girls school, The Hockaday School, before finishing their high school education at the private school, Austin High School in Texas.
President Bush's daughters both went to a public elementary school followed by private high schools.

As someone who has been to both and hated both, I can honestly say that yes, being in a private school helps. Many private schools really focus towards getting you into your choice university while I found that public schools just push you towards graduation. A private school will cater to your needs more than a public school will, however all this will come at a cost. If you're still unsure you should talk to a guidance counselor (I know this is nerdy, but they can be really helpful!) The reality is that schools want students that get good grades and are active in their community. Good grades and activities are more important than what school you went to. My daughters attend a public high school, and it is one of the most highly recruited schools in the US. It is because of the classes and required activities. Many colleges are more interested in where you placed in your class then what school or grades you have. In Texas, top 10% of your class will get you accepted in the best schools there. Basically, the colleges are interested in the student more than the school they went to.
In the U.S. public schools are free and non public (private) schools are not. In Great Britain, some schools we in the U.S. would call private schools are called public schools.
