Being the manager of a band is hard, especially when you are in middle school. Here are some tips that I learned the hard way.
Give them confidence. Slowly release them to the public. If the band members are a little shy, then give them to a few people at first; then blast them on the world!
A band director teaches a middle school, high school, college or a professional band. They make sure that you are ready to perform the pieces they've given you, make sure that your instrument is ready to play and everything is working on the instrument, and they teach you a talent that you are most likely good at.

Although I am not aware on how the middle school band program works; I do know that in my side of town; there is a high school honors band, in which I am trying out for (I am also a flutist myself). It takes some middle school band experience, and an audition that features a piece of music that looks hard to play (the notes look all closely spaced; and you never know how fast you're supposed to play it). But in order to get in; you should basically work hard and try your very best!
