Stop Motion refers to an animation process whereby the animator moves a inanimate object by small increments while taking a snapshot / photograph at each new position. Repeating the process a number of times gives the impression of movement or animation to the still object when the images / photographs are played back to the observer in quick succession. The replay rate is referred to as the FPS or frames per second. There are a number of different styles of stop motion namely, 3D object, 2D Cel or direct manipulation animation, cutout animation, sillhoutte animation and timelapse. They all share the common theme however of recording minute changes and replaying the recorded changes back in quick succession to the observe to give the impression of animation. The most popular recent exponents of stop motion is Nick Parks Wallace and Gromit. However there is a thriving hobby community of amateur stop motion animators active on the internet animating legobricks, clay etc. The vast majority of stop motion animation is done on computer using either a digital camera or in the case of the amateur a high end web camera. There are numerous software applications available to capture the images and in some cases add sound ,music and after effects.
The creator of stop motion is J. Stuart Blackton.
yes pivot is a stop motion program
Motion will quite often stop by itself, due to friction. You can also stop it by pushing backward.

Motion can stop friction in situations where the object comes to a complete stop or when an opposing force counteracts the motion. Friction occurs when two surfaces rub against each other, so if there is no relative motion between the surfaces, there will be no friction.
All molecular motion stops at absolute zero. This would not stop the passage of time.

There are many reasons why friction is an advantage to human motion. Friction helps humans to stop when they need to stop.
