if you have the old one still on it draw a picture of how it's routed. you will need to find the idler pulley. nothing else is attached to it.get a wrench on the nut on the front and push or pull, the whole pulley will move you found the idler pulley(belt tensioner). start routing the belt around all the other pulleys, leave the idler pulley for last. once you get it all routed and it wont go onto the last one grab that wrench and put it on that pulley, move the pulley and the belt will slid in place.
There is a belt tensioner that is spring loaded and it adjusts the tightness of the serp belt. The tensioner is self adjusting as the serp belt stretches out from use. You cannot adjust the belt tension yourself. If your serp belt is showing signs of cracking on the underside then you should replace it. If you suspect the belt tensioner is not putting enough tension on your serp belt then it should be replaced. I had a 1991 Corsica with the same motor and I had a belt tensioner break. This caused my serp belt to come off.
Look on the front left side of engine bay for the routing sticker.
ive found that if you remove the front side engine mount located on the passenger side place a jack with a block of wood under the pan, raise the engine up until you get better access to the belt tentioner, its easier to do this way, also if you remove the lower engine cover you'll have access to the belt too. relieve the tention on the belt with either a belt tool or a 13mm wrench, remove the serp belt half way, unbolt the tentioner, install the new one reinstall the belt, check all area's and alingment. drop the engine back down install the mount start the car up and check the belt and then install the lower engine cover, why your there might as well replace the belt for maintence purpose...hope this helps
Possibly a worn belt, seized/partially seized pulley (contacting serp. belt), worn belt tensioner or something melting to exhaust manifold.

serp. belt problemnot far, all of your power steering, alt., sometimes water pump are all ran off that belt. if the water pump is ran by that belt you will blow your engine in a matter of mins. i would not recommend driving until the belt is on
Indirectly. Eventually, the engine will lose ALL power if that serp belt breaks. Far cheaper to replace that worn belt now than face a complete rebuild of the engine a little ways in time down the road.
The serp belt has a spring tensioner. It is not adjustable. To remove the serp belt simply put a wrench on the nut and push it inward to create slack in the belt. Then slip it off.
yes you have to remove the serp, belt to replace timing belt
if your car is a 2.4lt twin cam, disconnect neg bat cable, relive the tention on the serp belt. move the belt out of the way, remove the alt wires on the back of the alt. remove two bolts, top and bottom remove the alt, install new part in reverse order. you shouldn't have to remove the engine mount to raise the engine, but if might make it easier to get access to the belt tentioner.
You have to pull the pulley up on the left side of the engine, towards the bottom of the serp. belt and then just pull it off. It helps if you start at the top of the belt and then work ur way down to the bottom. You might have to take the motor mount off to put the new belt on, I had a hard time, but I'm a girl, so that might explain the difficulties that i had. lol. Hope it helped.
drop serp belt come up through sub frame one bolt in the back and you are done
