ive found that if you remove the front side engine mount located on the passenger side place a jack with a block of wood under the pan, raise the engine up until you get better access to the belt tentioner, its easier to do this way, also if you remove the lower engine cover you'll have access to the belt too. relieve the tention on the belt with either a belt tool or a 13mm wrench, remove the serp belt half way, unbolt the tentioner, install the new one reinstall the belt, check all area's and alingment. drop the engine back down install the mount start the car up and check the belt and then install the lower engine cover, why your there might as well replace the belt for maintence purpose...hope this helps

Replace a 1997 Grand Marquis serpentine belt?

To replace the serpentine belt on a 1997 Grand Marquis, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Locate the belt routing diagram, usually found on a sticker near the radiator or under the hood. Use a wrench or ratchet to rotate the tensioner pulley and relieve tension on the belt, then slide the old belt off the pulleys. Install the new belt according to the routing diagram, ensuring it sits correctly on all pulleys, and then release the tensioner to secure the belt in place.
