You can go to any univeristy for as long as you want. How long it takes to complete your degree depends on what you study and how many classes you take at one time. Like most universities, Brigham Young University offers Bachelors and Masters degrees. For a traditional full-time student taking 4-5 classes per semester, a Bachelors degree takes four years and a Masters degree takes six years. However, you might choose to take fewer or more classes, or take a few semesters off. It all depends on what you can handle and what you choose to do. If you decide you don't like BYU, you could transfer your credits to another school or drop out of college altogether.
The only universities owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) are Brigham Young University, Brigham Young University -Idaho, and Brigham Young University -Hawaii. While these schools are owned by the church, students of any faith are welcome, so long as they agree to adhere to the school's Honor Code. A religion class is also required to graduate.
Brigham Young was Governor of the Territory of Utah from February 3, 1851 through April 12, 1858.

So far, about 140 years! :) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) moved it's headquarters to Utah under the direction of Brigham Young in the 1840's. Brigham Young died in the 1870's. Today, the headquarters of the Church is still there, on the same block where Brigham Young said it should be. Two of his homes are on the block as well and are popular tourist attractions as historic museums, and also serve as a cafe and reception center.
