Depends on the college. My college doesn't even require a foreign language. Most people take a class on the same foreign language they learned in high school.

Explain why you want to be part of the International Baccalaureate program?

There are many reasons to become a student of the International Baccalaureate program for a few reasons. Firstly, it is a very advanced program. Students who go through the International Baccalaureate program are more prepared for college. I know this because the average drop in GPA from high school to college for alumni of my International Baccalaureate school is significantly smaller that the average drop in GPA from high school to college for alumni of other schools in my area. Secondly, it is widely recognized. The IB diploma is recognized in most countries around the world. Thirdly, the foreign language program is emphasized. All students of the International Baccalaureate are required to test in a foreign language. At my school, we are required to take 4 years of a foreign language and 1 year of studying the culture of that language, as opposed to the two years required at other schools in my area. This emphasis on foreign language is fun and looks great in a resume. Finally, the IB diploma can give a student Advanced Credit for many colleges and universities.

Should you take a foreign language if it is not required by your school but you are planning to go to college?

The biggest growing market in the world right now is Chinese, with its big markets opening up. It would be great to have that ability! A: It is very advantageous to take a language in high school. College admissions looks not only at what is required, but at what you've taken initiative to do that was not required. Even if you did not continue study of that language, the process of studying a language is helpful if you study another language later. You will develop and use new neural pathways. You will enjoy being able to understand and use foreign words and phrases. You will never be sorry for something you studied/learned. You will only be sorry for the things you did not learn.
