We students and parents of John Dewey High School had already been informed that John Dewey High School will no longer be remain in the "Phaseout" school list nor it is closing down, I am currently a freshman in John Dewey High School, and also want to transfer to a better school [Midwood/Murrow/Goldstein] The School was facing a lot of problems, includes the permanent scanner rule, We don't have any teams for the sports, the budget was low, so we have a lot of non-extended days, and what they mean by *closing down the school* was that this school will no longer be in High School Directory book, where 8th graders applied for high schools, so if this school were to close they have to wait for us freshmen to graduate to "totally" close down this school. For a period, people from the education departments would come and look at the school environment, I am in class 144 and because it was an outstanding academic class, They liked our class. But since now that it is not closing down, for those of you who are incoming freshman

and it was not your desire High School and wants to transfer, It'll be hard; I learned that last yr a total number of 150 students wants to transfer, unfortunately, only 5 was able to (This information is not really reliable, please remain calm) So If you got into John Dewey High, don't get your hopes up too much on transferring. Try to join clubs so it gives you service credits, (I am currently in the Key Club and is going for the president position) And try to focus on studying, because the hallways are usually crowded with people who are cutting.

The Good news is that we will have sports this year since it's not closing down, they also have approximately 15 AP Courses for those of you who want to go beyond your usual studies, and Since John Dewey High School is not a competitive High School like those SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOLS WHICH INCLUDES: Stuyvesant or Bronx Science etc. You have a greater chance of getting into prestigious universities. Well Still hope that you and I transfers, if not I am Going for Valedictorian!

I am a sophomore now! John Dewey is apparently improving step by step, The state came to visit a lot more consecutively. Dewey offers many AP Classes (College board Advance Placement) I am currently in 10th grade World History Advance Placement, And became the President of Key Club and Vice President an environment team, My opinion had not been altered regarding my objectives. Apparently the Faculty Members tried changing some regulations in the school, So the outcome turned out that there will no longer be grade reversals meaning if you failed a course, your average will remain the same on your transcript. So this maybe a dire strait for the people who do not attend classes. Though that is not my concern...... I'M STILL STRIVING FOR SUCCESS, I WILL WISH TO ATTEND BEST UNIVERSITIES IN THE NATION.

Sincerely,

Lauren
