No, being a Satanist simply means being true to yourself and not following in what society expects of you. Many people think being satanic means you worship Satan and use black magic, but this is a hoax conjured up by the media. Satanists are also believed by close minded people to sacrifice goats and small children to Satan, but again this is another hoax made by the media. I hope I helped and didn't 'drag on' :)

The Short Answer: No, it is not.

The Long Answer: Satanism as a stand alone religion was started in the 1960's as an atheistic religion.

The precepts are easily boiled down to three items:

1 - Do unto others as they have done unto you. (eye for an eye)

2 - Enjoy the physical world and all its pleasures. (Isn't it beautiful?)

3 - Don't take sh*t from anyone. (Basically the american mindset)

There is a theistic version of it which is not a stand-alone religion. This version is completely dependant on a host religion to define "god" and "devil" so that they might worship the devil aspect. These people could certainly be considered Wicked, as several sects admittedly accept human sacrifice and abuse people.

The key is to use an objective set of morals (not your own) in order to judge the morality of something. Using fairy tales that have not been scientifically verified as your source of morality (especially when the various fairy tales justify murder, rape, war and slavery) is just silly.

As one of the categories for this question is 'the Bible,' why not see what some Scritures says about Satan and then the reader can better decide for themselves if satanism is wicked.

Much of what can be said about Satan is in the meaning of the name - Adversary. The Apostle Peter calls him 'your enemy the devil' (1 Peter 5:8). All his motivations and actions are those of our enemy. In contrast, God is summarized as 'love' as we can read in 1 John 4:8; 16).

Jesus said that Satan is the god ruling this world and has nothing in common with Him (or His followers for that matter - John 14:30). The Scripture points out sharp differences between Satan and God. In John 8:43-44, Christ says Satan is a murderer and a liar and that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

Then the Apostle Paul emphasizes the sharp difference between Satan and God in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, "For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial?" The thrust of this is that the ways of Christ and Satan are as opposite as day and night, light and darkness.

Finally, the Bible says we are to love and obey only God. He gave us the first 4 Commandments of the 10 to show us how to do so. God is the way of 'give' while Satan is the way of 'get.' Let the reader choose which way to go. Remember, there is a way that seems right to a man but in the end will lead to death.

The Bible also reveals that Satan is the "deceiver of the whole world" [Rev.12:9]. He is the creator of hundreds [thousands ?] of "false religions" the world over which "most people do not associate with him." They aren't aware that Satan is Behind the Scenes and at the root of their beliefs, also.

Even Jesus warns people to beware of "false Christianity" [Matt.24:4-5].

"...for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light..." (II Cor.11:14).

A deceived person isn't aware that his beliefs are wrong. Otherwise, he is not deceived. People don't normally go around saying things like: "I'm glad the God in whom I believe is the wrong one."

Thus, has deception passed "wickedness" off in the world as "something good."

Satan is "wicked." Therefore... "Satanism" is wicked." But, at least those who delve into it should not be surprised by its end results... unlike those whose deceptive false religious beliefs by other names shall also one day be revealed to be Satan's... and wicked, also. Theirs just wasn't as obvious as "Satanism."
