My Opinion
I think public schools are not a place for religious education. Public schools have diverse backgrounds and teaching one set religion is not the right choice. Time should be consumed in raising test scores in mathematics and sciences. If a child/parent wants religious education mixed into the daily education, they should go to a religious school. (For example Catholic School etc)
Opinions on this vary. But those who don't want to have religious instruction in school are probably afraid that a certain religion will be more or less imposed on children. After all, if a religion is to be taught, who should decide which religion will be taught? Would you agree with your children being taught (for example) Buddhism if you are a Christian; or Christianity if you are a Buddhist, because somebody else decided that that is the "best" religion? Those who do want religion may also have valid arguments - for example, they might consider that religion to be the source of morality/ethics. However, the problem persists, which religion should be taught. Of course it might be possible to teach several religions, depending on the children's preferences (or those of their parents). But that will increase the cost for the school.
Religion was never taught in school (if you mean public school). The pledge of allegiance was said at the beginning of the school day (having the term God in it), and you might have noticed the 10 commandments posted on the wall in one of your classrooms, but in general, religion was never a course that one could take for academic credit.
Religion and the art of fighting was taught in telpochcalli.
I think religion should be taught in public schools. It should not say this is what's right to believe and this is what's wrong, but students should be educated about the most predominant religions. It would allow students to get a better understanding of something and allow for more acceptance and maybe some will find a religion that suits them more.
The history and existence of hate crimes should be taught in school, so we can raise aware and tolerant children for the future.
math, english, polish, history, religion, gym, science,

Elementary school students should be taught on both Windows and Mac operating systems.
no. it can not. wanna discuss how crappy the fact that religion is being taught in school. if your gonna sends your kids to a religious school the only difference is the religion classwork. it ends up to be extra work and a weight on you shoulders. YOU now that your children have the choice to be religious or not gosh!!
Algebra is essential in life!
They can both be taught in classrooms. However creationism cannot be taught as if it were scientifically verifiable fact in public schools, as it is not science, and the US constitution prohibits federal or state funded (educational) institutions promoting religion. So if creationism is taught in public school, then it must be taught in comparative religion or philosophy classes, and not in biology classes.
Ellen Page is a Buddhist. The actress even attended a Buddhist school when she was growing up. The school taught meditation and yoga.
