The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria(who was the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary) on the 28th June 1914 caused the war to begin.

The conflict opened with the German invasion of Belgium, Luxembourg and France; the Austro-Hungarian invasion of Serbia; and a Russian attack against Germany.

The War ended on the 11th November 1918.
