It is a theory first proposed (I believe) by Howard Gardner, and it basically says that everyone is intelligent in different ways. We obviously don't all score super-high on the IQ measurement tests, but that is only one aspect of intelligence.

People have been talking about it for a long time, just with different words. You'll hear someone say that so-and-so is "book smart," but not "people smart." ... And that is basically what Howard Gardner says as well. I think his theory started with seven kinds of intelligence, but has blossomed into more since: Naturalist, Musical, Mathematical/Logical, Existential, Spatial, Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Bodily-kinesthetic, and Verbal/Linguistic.

People can be smart in some ways and not in others. I might be super good at academics and tests... while my brother can toast me in any video game that requires timing and coordination. I'm just not as good, not as intelligent, in that area. I also stink at social skills. I'm not intelligent in that area either... but some people are fantastic at that. They are friends with everyone they meet. ... That's basically what the theory is, that there are many different ways to be intelligent, not just one. I'll add some links below if you want to read about it some more.

What are the advantages and disadvantages in theories of intelligence?

Gardner with multiple intelligences is on the right tract. I do believe that there are multiple intelligences, but to teach to teach all 9 is virtually impossible in a classroom of 30 students. A teacher has to meet the state and district requirements of the core curriculum and state frameworks and it is very hard to meet those requirements using multiple intelligences. I know I tried. Many schools today are requiring teachers to be on the same page in the same book at the same time and using multiple intelligences you can't do that. Multiple intelligences requires more freedom to teach.

Can a person have more than one of Gardner's multiple intelligences?

A. There is absolutely no empirical support for Howard Gardner's " multiple intelligences. " B. A significant proportion of traits claimed to be " multiple intelligences " are well covered by standard IQ trait testing. So, I guess you could have all of Gardener's " multiple intelligences ", but how would one quantify that.

What is Gardner and theory of multiple intelligence's?

Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences proposes that there are different types of intelligences beyond the traditional measure of IQ, such as linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist intelligences. This theory suggests that individuals may excel in one or more of these intelligences, and that intelligence is not a singular, fixed ability.
