What does the Gaelic word Ceili mean?

If I'm not mistaken, ceili (I think it is pronounced close to "kaylee") is a party, usually with live music, and for all ages. It is usually a community dance party. Ceili is a Gaelic word; I know they have ceilis in Ireland, and probably Scotland too.
