Agujero means hole. It comes from the root of the word Aguja which means means needle. It is an outgrowth of the hole a needle leaves behind, but now it just means hole.
Another similar word with a totally different root:
Aguajero means joker. Someone who is constantly playing jokes or pranks to fool people. Liar is too strong a word, but sometimes it can mean untrustworthy.
It depends on context, but "agujero" or "abertura".
