What is the difference between learning at high school and college?

Different.

In college, you pick an area to focus in, your "major". It can be whatever the university offers - engineering, communications, pre-med, ancient studies, art history...its an area you learn in depth. After you graduate, you typically get a job that had a pre-requirement of a degree in a related field to your major.

Also, you are responsible for your success or failure. So if you want to skip class, no one cares. You're in charge, and if you fail out, that's your problem. There is no "No Child Left Behind". If you can't keep up with the work, its up to you to find help.

A big advantage is that the income of a college grad is significantly higher than a high school grad, because a lot of good jobs require a degree.

Moral of the story- pick an area you like and have a future in, and get an education.

No one is there to hand feed you the information; you have to take an active part. The biggest difference to me was managing my study time--the rule of thumb of 3 hours spent studying per unit was pretty much right on.

But if you take AP (Advanced Placement) classes in high school, they are introductory college classes, so it would be the same for you.

Im a freshman in college now, i took AP Biology, and i took it last semester in college, and the college version was a lot easier than the AP version, so it depends.

Years ago, the main difference in course work between high school and college was the amount of work. A high school student frequently took a class for two semesters and did not finish a textbook. In one college course, a student in his freshman year could have some of the same material but would have a more difficult text book and would finish the entire book in the first semester with additional work besides. So, it was the same stuff, only more. A goof off in high school became a flunk out in college.

the different between high schools and college is that of colleges are a wide institution compared to a school which may consist of 20 classes and in colleges you upgrade your studies and some go there in purpose of doing short-courses.

In college, the teacher does not coach you at all. It's possible that the professor will not ever know your name. They do not care if you attend class or turn in your assignments. You have to take on the responsibility for yourself. Also, you take a whole class in only a semester so a lot of information is crammed into a small amount of time. You may only take 4 tests for the whole class which makes each one count for much more. If you want time to socialize, you have to take the time to do it. There is no elected lunch time for you to have time to hang out with your friends. You make your own schedule, nobody tells you which classes you need to take in order to graduate. In many places, it isn't. The two terms can refer to the same thing.

In others, common usage means that college refer to teriary education at a university, while high school refers to secondary education only.

College academics are less restrictive in that students are treated like adults and are fully responsible for their own actions. High School is mandated, and therefore more "oppressive" of the students, and how they go about their daily activities.

In other words, kick back, relax, don't read or study because you haven't been told, don't write those papers because there's always time, don't work on those projects because they're team efforts anyway, and, you know..., skip classes/labs because you happen to know the topic that will be covered.... do all of these things, and it will be only ONE SEMESTER of college you'll ever have to worry about! Big relief for everyone.
