The adjective 'literary' has several meanings...
1. Identifiable as occupied or concerned with books or written works. For example, famous author Mark Twain once wrote a story entitled "My Debut as a Literary Person".
2. Well informed about literature. University professors who specialise in English literature would definitely be literary people.
3. 'Literary' is also used to define a word or term that is mainly used in 'literature'. For example, the word 'motif' is used as a literary term to describe a recurring theme in a story or play.
4. The term 'literary' can also be used in a negative way to describe a person who is more interested in 'books' than in 'real life'.
