Stetson University- Founded in 1883, Stetson is Florida's first university. Although founded after FSU(1851) and UF(1853), FSU is only recognized by Florida as the oldest continuous site of higher learning in the state. However, it was not chartered as a university until 1947. Florida Legislature enacted the Charter of Stetson University as an independent institution of higher learning in 1887.
