Anyone can be a surveyor working under a Licensed Surveyor with little or no education beyond high school. To be a Licensed Land Surveyor it really depends on the state that a person wants to be licensed in. More states are heading towards requiring a 4 year degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, or other approved disciplines. Some states, like Missouri still allow a person to obtain a License with 12 credit hours of surveying related courses and several years of experience but are moving toward requiring at least a 2 year degree in the near future.
