It was meant to educate the muslims in India. M.A.O school was first set up which was based on the pattern of English public school system. This encouraged Sir Syed to further turn it into a college. He dreamt of setting up a Muslim University fascinated by Oxford and Cambridge universities in England. The main reason for the college was to raise the political, social, moral, economic and religious status of the Muslims. The college became much more like an educational institute as it gave Western, Indian as well as Islamic education which convinced the ulema who were against western education. The college not only educated the Muslims but also groomed their personalities.
