Satan entered post-Exilic Judaism as a pure spirit, with no sexual orientation. In Christianity, Satan evolved to become the evil opponent of God, seeking to cause the faithful to deviate from righteousness and thus to destroy God's kingdom. He continued to evolve throughout much of the Middle Ages, at time portrayed in physical form but always in repulsive ways that served to heighten superstitious fear, but also as a figure of fun.

If at any time he was portrayed as having a spouse, it would be part of the medieval tussle between Church, which wanted to establish Satan as a very serious and real threat, and the common people who alleviated this threat by treating him as a figure of fun.
