Self-defeating resistance is more widely known in education perhaps as oppositional defiance. More accurately the behavior of an OD child is the example. When an OD child will not follow directions or acts out to disrupt lessons, he is exhibiting self-defeating resistance. The lesson and his involvement in the classroom are for his benefit, yet he is unable or unwilling to conform, rather chooses to act out to derail instruction or to recast attention upon himself.
