He was able to do calculus in his head and some teachers believed that he was cheating but later came to the right conclusion. After that education Tesla went back home a bad case of cholera struck almost to his death. He ran away to Tomingaj, near Gračac evanding the draft into the Austro-Hungarian Army in Smiljan. He was lucky to join the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz, Austria, on a Military Frontier scholarship after that and graduated there.
