Kids need recess for several reasons. Physical activity during recess helps children develop gross motor skills, improve coordination, and maintain overall health. Recess also provides a break from academic tasks, allowing students to recharge and refocus, which can enhance their cognitive abilities and attention span. Additionally, recess promotes social interaction, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills, which are crucial for their social development.
Winter recess in elementary schools typically falls around the end of December and beginning of January, aligning with the winter holidays such as Christmas and New Year's. The exact dates may vary depending on the school district's academic calendar.
Kids need their vacation. Its that simple. I am a kid myself and personally in my school we lack holidays. Our summer break is 7 weeks long. After A hard school year full of ICGSE kids need to have their down time and break.
Kids need longer weekends to have more time for rest and relaxation, as well as to engage in activities that promote their physical, social, and emotional well-being. Longer weekends also provide opportunities for families to spend more quality time together, which can strengthen relationships and promote overall happiness and well-being for children. Additionally, extended weekends give kids a break from the demands of school and extracurricular activities, allowing them to recharge and return to school feeling more refreshed and ready to learn.
I would say yes and no. Some kids might not like it because they don't get to meet new friends, they don't get to feel like a child going to school, and they usually don't make many friends throughout their childhood. However, there are also many positives. Being homeschooled, you can finish your homework whenever you want, all day is recess as you can decide when to work on homework and when to play, you do won't have any embarrassing moments as you will be in your house, you will have much more free time than if you were at school, you will be able to have time to play sports, and you will feel like you aren't at aschool.
The children's program in the 70s where British kids swapped homes with kids from Europe is called "Blue Peter". It featured a segment called "Blue Peter Exchange" where children could apply to swap homes with families in various European countries.

Recess Pieces!
Recess? Absolutely! Kids need to run and play, blow off excess energy, and the idea of eliminating recess from the school day is incredibly wrong-minded and unhealthy.
Kids need longer recess periods because it allows them to release pent-up energy, engage in physical activity, socialize with their peers, and improve their focus and concentration in the classroom. Extended recess may also enhance their overall well-being and academic performance.
