If it's a silicon zener diode, it conducts in the reverse direction after the rated voltage is reached. Otherwise, it only conducts in the forward bias direction.

Why diode conducts current in forward bias but does not conduct in reversed bias?

diode current flows only when the diode is forward biased because in reverse bias the barrier potential increases. Diode can conduct in reverse bias if applied votage is high enough to overcome the reverse bias barrier potential but it can be destructive.

What are the two bias conditions for a diode?

The two bias conditions for a diode are forward and reverse

What does mean by reverse bias diode?

A A diode has two state either on [forward conduction .7 volts. Or reversed bias meaning the diode voltage polarity are revered or cut off, depends on the diode but it will leak some current , Anyhow that is reversed bias diode conditionForward conduction voltage can vary between about 0.6 volts and about 1.4 volts depending on the diode and the current. Also, some diodes, such as zener diodes, will conduct in the reverse direction. Reverse bias is simply where the anode is more negative than the cathode.

Will a zener diode work the same as a germanium diode?

No. An ordinary diode, be it silicon or germanium, conducts in one direction only, whereas a zener diode conducts in both directions, but at different voltages. An ordinary diode is used to rectify, using its forward bias characteristics, while a zener diode is used to regulate, using its reverse bias characteristics.

How is zener diode different from a conventional diode or ideal diode?

zener diode :zener diode operates under reverse bias voltageideal diode :ideal diode operates under forward bias voltage

Why are silicon diodes not suited for low voltage rectifiers?

Silicon diodes ARE used in reverse bias. This is the mode in which they do not conduct, which is the principal role of a diode. When forward biased, a silicon diode will conduct but has a voltage drop of around 0.6v so is not useful for rectifying small voltages (unless used as a perfect diode with an op amp).

What happens when diode is supplied with a voltage higher than RIV in reverse bias?

when diode is supplied with a voltage higher than RIV in reverse bias, the diode will burn out and will have zero resistance.

A zener diode is invariably used with?

Reverse bias

How is zener diode different from a conventional diode or ideal diode?

zener diode :zener diode operates under reverse bias voltageideal diode :ideal diode operates under forward bias voltage

What do you mean by peak reverse voltage of semiconductor diode?

Peak reverse voltage of a diode is the maximum reverse bias voltage can be applied to diode which does not cause break down.

Which region zener diode can be used as regulator?

Reverse Bias
