Carbon is a resistor, meaning it conducts electricity, but not very well.
carbon microphone consists of two metal plates with a layer of small grains of carbon between. Each metal plate is attached to a wire which connects it to an audio receiver.
A current runs from one plate through the carbon to the other plate. The carbon molecules normally resist it somewhat, lowering the power flow. When a sound wave pushes down on the top plate, however, it squeezes the carbon molecules more tightly between the two plates. This increases their conductivity, creating more electric current. As the plate moves up and down with the sound wave, the current increases and decreases, creating an electric wave in the shape of the sound wave.
Microphone gives ac output. Microphone converts sound energy to electrical energy. Due to vibration of Carbon diaphragm the resistance varies so that the amplitude of current varies. That is not entirely true. A microphone element produces a very small DC sine wave output, all of it above the zero line. It can be made to have an AC ouput if a circuit is added to do so, as an amplifier which provides the negative component. Thus, half (or sometimes less than half) of the sine wave will be below the zero line. Otherwise, circuitry may be integral to the mic. The electret microphone is based on the electret capacitor, which is a special capacitor with quasi-permanent charge. Vibrations in the air are picked up by the capacitor, which generates an equivalent vibrating electrical signal. Unlike a traditional condensor (another name for capacitor) microphone, the electret does not require a power source.
Microphone can do this job.
1870 - Stock Ticker 1877 - Phonograph 1878 - Carbon Microscope 1879 - Light Bulb 1888 - Kinetoscope 1896 - Vitascope In 1870, he invented his first successful invention, the stock ticker. A stock ticker prints current prices from the stock market. It was the first to print words as well as numbers. He invented the phonograph in 1877. The phonograph device was used to record and replay sound from a cylinder. From 1877 to 1878, he invented the carbon microphone. The carbon microphone makes voices louder on the telephone. In 1879, Thomas invented the light bulb. His first successful bulb glowed for 13 hours. He invented the kinetoscope in 1888. The kinetoscope records and reproduces objects in motion. Edison invented the vitascope in 1896. The vitascope was used to project motion pictures in public screenings in New York City.
They are over ear, and the microphone works very well.
Thomas Edison invented the carbon microphone in 1877
The carbon microphone was first created by Thomas Alva Edison in 1877. There was another person who claimed to own the patent for the microphone in 1877 and that was Emily Berliner.
David Edward Hughes invented the carbon microphone. He lived from 1831-1900, and lived in London, England.
Both Emile Berliner and Thomas Edison applied for patents on the carbon microphone in 1877.
The carbon microphone was used as an early type of microphone in telephones and other communication devices. It worked by varying the electrical resistance of carbon granules in response to sound waves, converting sound into electrical signals for transmission.

Any microphone that works with your computer will work with skype. Logitech makes a lot of great microphones. You can find them at Best Buy or Walmart.

i did
The microphone originated in the United States. The first practical microphone, known as the carbon microphone, was developed by Emile Berliner in 1877. His invention significantly improved sound transmission in telephones and laid the groundwork for future audio technology.
As long as it is USB, any microphone should work with Rock Band. In fact, the Xbox Live headset even works as a microphone for this game.
