What is a joule and what does it measure?

he joule is the unit of energy in the International System of Units, also known as SI. It measures heat, electricity and mechanical work. It was named after English physicist James Prescott Joule. See the related links for more information. The joule is a derived unit equivalent to a newton-meter, or a kilogram-meter squared per second per second.A joule is also:A unit of electrical energy equal to the work done when a current of one ampere is passed through a resistance of one ohm for a period of time of one second.A unit of energy equal to the work done when a force of one newton* acts through a distance of one meter.[* In the meter-kilogram-second (MKS) system, a newton is the unit of force required to accelerate a mass of one kilogram one meter per second per second, equal to 100,000 dynes. The unit is named after Sir Isaac Newton.]

How does an electric power company calculate electrical energy from electric power?

Electricity consumption is measured in Kilowatt hours, this is one unit of electric consumption and charged according to your supplier. You have to know how many watts your devices consume. This is sometimes written on the ID tag or plate, or you can use a meter in line. Multiply this wattage number by the hours it is switched on and this will tell you how much it has consumed. e.g. A toaster may consume 1000Watts = 1Kw, if you ran it continuously for an hour it would consume 1 unit of electricity. Toasters don't run for more than a few minutes, so would use less than 1 unit per operation. 3 mins = 0.05hrs Therefore = 0.05 of a unit. A 100W light bulb would consume 1 unit in ten hours. 100W = 0.1 KW. = one tenth of a kilowatt, so ten times this would equal 1 Kw/h, Therefore ten hours.

How many rupees in 1000 watt?

The cost of electricity in rupees for a 1000-watt (1 kW) appliance depends on the local electricity tariff, which varies by region and provider. To calculate the cost, you can multiply the power consumption (in kW) by the number of hours used and then by the rate per unit (kWh) charged by your electricity provider. For example, if the rate is 5 rupees per kWh and the appliance runs for 1 hour, it would cost 5 rupees.
