A rheostat is simply a variable resistor used to control current. It does not have a positive or a negative terminal.

What is phase sequence in 3-phase system?

The potential of each line of a three-phase system is displaced from the other two by 120 electrical degrees. The sequence, or order, in which the potential of each line reaches its peak value is termed the 'phase sequence' of the system. The 'normal' phase sequence of an alternator is considered to be the 'positive phase sequence', is arbitrarily assigned colours (e.g. red-yellow-blue, etc.), numbers (e.g. 1-2-3), letters (e.g. A-B-C), or a combination of letters or numbers (e.g. L1-L2-L3). If that alternator should run backwards, or (far more likely) if its terminals were disconnected and then incorrectly reconnected, the the sequence would be A-C-B (etc.), which would be considered to be 'negative phase sequence'. Before connecting two generators (or two complete transmission/distribution systems) together, their phase sequence must be confirmed as being the same. Reconnecting a three-phase motor with the wrong phase sequence would result in it running in the reverse direction and, possibly, damaging its load.

Why 3 phase are called as r y b?

In the UK, the letters, 'R-Y-B', stand for 'red-yellow-blue' which are the colours used to identify the lines (not phases) of a three-phase transmission or distribution cable. The colours are also used, in some cases, to identify the corresponding bushings for transformers, circuit breakers, voltage transformers (potential transformers), etc., in substations. The sequence of these letters/colours also correspond to the normal phase sequence of the three-phase system. In UK residential, commercial, and industrial installations, these colours have now been replaced by the EU harmonisation colours: brown-black-grey. Other countries use different methods of identifying line conductors, including 1-2-3, A-B-C, R-S-T, L1-L2-L3, etc., or various combinations of these methods.

Do you have to use all 4 screws in a Nema L14 30 Plug or can I use 12 2 wire and leave one pole empty and only use for 110 power?

The L14-30 receptacle is a three pole four wire grounding 125/250 volt device. Normal wiring using all terminals is 240 volt supply to terminals X and Y. These will be the red and black wires from the three wire cable. Your choice of colours to the X and Y terminals. The white wire from the three conductor cable connects to W terminal and the bare ground wire from the cable connects to the G terminal. To answer the question, yes only one half can be used. The cable that connects to it must be a two conductor #12 which is rated for 20 amps. For 120 volt utilization the supply breaker needs to be a single pole 20 amp breaker, then the circuit will conform to the electrical code.Connect the black of the two wire to either the X or Y terminal, white of the two wire cable to the W terminal and the bare ground wire of the two wire cable to the G terminal.

How do you identify L1 from L2 in single phase?

L1 and L2 should have different colour insulation. The colours are different in different countries.

Does a conditional format in Excel make negative numbers red and positive numbers black?

Not necessarily. You can use one of the standard formatting options to that. There would be no need to use Conditional Formatting. You can get Conditional Formatting to do it, but you can use it do change positive and negative numbers to whatever colours you want or apply other formatting to them. Not necessarily. How can you tell which is positive and which is negative on a speaker hookup?

Depending on colours of course black is usually negative and the other colour (generally red but depends) is positive. Get a D-cell Battery. Now get two pieces of speaker wire. hold one wire on the positive terminal of the battery and hold the other on the negative side of the battery. touch the wires to the positive and negative posts on the speaker. if the cone moves out ward the positive and negative are correct if it moves inward then the positive and negative are reversed (out of phase.) this simple test will allow you to see which terminal is which. What does positive mean in English spoken countries?

The word positive has various meanings.1. Firm and accurate. Positive pressure = firm pressure; positive fit = tight fit.2. Optimistic. To have a positive outlook means to always be looking for best in things.3. In electricity, the positive (+) side of a battery or power supply is the connection with less free electrons than the other, negative (-) side.4. To answer "I am positive." to a question such as "Are you sure?" means that I am absolutely sure.5. In photography, a positive is an image with colours that are the same as the subject of the photo, while the negative has colours that are chromatically opposite (ie. black white; red green; blue yellow)

What are white magic spells?

Magick does not come in colours... there is no such thing as "black" or "white".. only the intent behind it, which could be positive or negative (healing spells could also be viewed as negative as they "attack" the source of the problem - a quandry if you viewed things as black or whitte ;p)

What are the speaker wire colours on a renault clio?

In a Renault Clio, the speaker wire colors typically follow a standard convention where positive and negative wires are color-coded. Commonly, the positive wire is usually either red or brown, while the negative wire is often black or blue. However, it's important to verify with a wiring diagram specific to the model year, as color codes can vary. Always ensure to double-check connections to avoid any issues with audio performance.

Is Black wire vs black wire with white stripe positive or negative?

Any marking (a white stripe, bump molded into the cable, different wire colours) is an indication for your reference only. It doesn't matter, as long as you connect the marked side on the amplifier to the same polarity on the speaker side.
