Time delay protective relays used in the power industry can be time over current or voltage, or definite time over / under voltage / over current.

Definite time type relays use an over / under voltage / current element that picks up when voltage / current reach a specified level. When this picks up, a timer is started. If current / voltage stays above / below the pickup value for long enough to allow the timer to expire, the relay trip contacts are closed.

Time over current elements use an inverse time - current curve to define speed of operation, so the more current is present, the faster the relay will operate.

What is a time delay relay function used for?

A time delay relay is used in applications that have a need to be automatically switched on and off. A few applications that require time delay relays are strobe lights, stoplights, and Christmas tree lights.

What is a relay delay in the electric circuit?

A relay is a kind of electrical switch which interconnects an electric circuit. It works using an electromagnet which makes or breaks a contact when a voltage is applied to the coil. It is activated immediately when voltage is applied. In a relay delay, the electromagnet is not energized instantaneously when a voltage is applied. It is activated after a fixed set of time or programmed time.Various types of delay mechanism are available, some fixed, some with variable time delay. The timing mechanism can be mechanical, motorized or electronic.

What is instantaneous over current relay?

Instantaneous over current relay, which operates very fast with no intentional time delay and the operating time of these relay can be as low as 0.01sec . These relay operates only when the impedance between the relay and the source zsis very small compared to the impedance to the impedance of the protected section zl .

What is 50G protection relay mean?

50 is the ANSI device number for an instantaneous overcurrent relay. The G suffix stands for "ground." A 50G protection relay trips the circuit breaker without time delay when it detects a ground fault on the circuit.

What are the characteristics of Diode transistor logic?

What does a time delay relay do on Plymouth acclaim?

Time delay relayA relay which responds to a signal with a certain delay. In some ignition systems, a time delay relay allows for full vacuum advance 20-30 seconds after start-up, after which control is again taken up by the TCS; some cars have an additional time delay relay which delays vacuum advance about 30 seconds after the transmission has been shifted to high gear
