He discovered that frogs legs convulsed when touched by metal that was charged by electricity.
Luigi Galvani born in Bologna, a city in Italy. He was born September ,1737 to a goldsmith father. His mother was his father's fourth wife.
The first electrical circuit was created by an Italian physicist named Luigi Galvani in the 1780s. He discovered a frog's leg would twitch when touched with two pieces of metal. His work was taken up by Professor Alessandro Volta. He created the Vollaic pile. The pile consisted of discs of zinc and copper with pieces of cardboard soaked in brine between the metal plates. It was the first "wet cell battery". This principle is used similarly today but the metals and fluids are quite different.
To meter is to measure. A voltmeter is so called because it measures volts. An Italian scientist named Galvani was dissecting a dead frog, and noticed the muscles twitching each time he touched them with a metal scalpel. He reported this observation. Another Italian scientist named Volta read the report and started investigations which led him to the invention of the electric cell and electric battery. The volt is named in his honour. (Galvani is commemorated by galvanometer, galvanism and galvanise.) So, a voltmeter is called that because an Italian got curious about what another Italian noticed.
