Squelch is something used in telecommunications, squelch is a circuit function that acts to suppress the audio (or video) output of a receiver in the absence of a sufficiently strong desired input signal. For instance if you turn the squelch up on a radio you can cut out the noise but if someone transmits they will pass the squelch threshold and be heard.
A squelch circuit turns off the audio input to the speaker when there is no radio signal being received. This stops the speaker from producing annoying noise when no radio signal is being received.
I assume you're referring to an amplifier circuit. In a differential amplifier, there are two inputs. The common mode output voltage is the output voltage that will result from the same voltage being applied to both inputs. Typically this is very low, as the common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) is very high in a differential amplifier. This is an ideal characteristic (high CMRR) as it means unwanted noise will not be amplified and potentially squelch out the desired signal; this is why a differential amplifier is used in high quality sound equipment. Three wires are used - a ground, and two signal wires that are opposite each other. Noise will inherently "hop on" the signal wires, but as they are close to one another, it is likely the noise will be nearly the same magnitude and sign on each wire. Since the amplifier CMRR is high, this noise does not propogate through the amplifier, while the original signal is amplified.
my rain soaked shoes would squelch as i walked ...
I have an answer,The squelch on my Citizen Band radio is set to high.

Someone in the squad let a squeal when they began to squelch in the mud.
Yes, "squelch" is an onomatopoeia word that imitates the sound made when walking in wet or muddy ground.
No. The squelch circuit is used to mute the background noise when no signal is received. You could try to catch weak signals by disabling the squelch.
uranus that's what

The squelch adjustment sets a threshold for the signals/transmissions that you hear -- it lets you listen to actual transmissions without hearing the "dead" noise when a frequency is not active. With the radio on and set to a specific frequency, turn the squelch down until you hear the noise, then turn it up slowly until the noise stops. This will be the ideal squelch/threshold setting for that particular frequency, and you may need to adjust the setting for other frequencies.
squelch welch as in Welches/Welch's grape juice
