Lots of kinds of diodes are used in amplifiers.

In the power supply section, diodes may be used in groups of two or four, as rectifiers to convert AC (from the mains supply, via a transformer) into DC for the amplifier. These diodes are usually rated at several hundred volts, and several amps. They are classified as rectifier diodes. A typical example is 1N5404.

In the amplifier circuitry, diodes may be used to provide a known (approximately) voltage drop where required by the design of the circuit. They can also be used for temperature feedback, although for direct temperature compensation a transistor is more common. These diodes are generally small-signal types like 1N4148.

In logic switching, diodes are often used for simple OR-type functions. Look on Wikipedia for "diode OR". These are small-signal types.

If the amplifier has a switching power supply, or is a Class D amplifier, high speed switching diodes are used extensively. They are used for rectification (though they must be high-speed devices because of the high switching frequency), suppression and clamping in the Class D output stage (ditto), and miscellaneous functions in the control circuitry. These are high-speed, high-current diodes.

Can a pn junction diode be used as an amplifier?

Never. It is impossible to use diodes for amplification.

Why diode can't use as amplifier?

A2. For amplification to take place, one needs three terminals; an input, an output, and a control signal. This indicates the original " valve" naming; after a mechanical valve, where a small effort on a (hydraulic) valve may be used to control a larger effort of the controlled fluid.A1. If u meant why diode can't be used as an amplifier diode is used as a rectifier..it converts ac current to dc and there is an inbuilt voltage drop... so it can't be used as an amplifier

How do you use a diode as temperature sensor?

The voltage across a Silicon Diode junction varies 0.00011 volts per degree Kelvin. Connect the diode to a high gain amplifier and the output of the amplifier to a DVM using an appopriate voltage scale.

Why mostly a transister is used as amplifier than diode?

A diode is not an amplifier. It is a rectifier with asymmetrical voltage breakdown voltages. Usually the forward voltage is around 0.6V to 0.7V (silicon), and the reverse voltage is smaller than breakdown voltage, which is much higher. A transistor can be used as an amplifier, by taking into account the fact that the voltage breakdown curves vary, usually collector-emitter, as a function of some other current, usually base-emitter, but this depends on the class of the amplifier and whether or not the transistor is driven into saturation.

Which is better as a switch diode or transistor?

Basically a diode is a combinstion of pN junction but the transistor is made with three terminals EMITTER,, BASE ,, JUNCTION.. and diode is just a combination of positive and negative terminal . diode and transistors are both used as a switch .. but a transistor is more widly udes than a diode. and diode has also very important in electronics DIGITAL SYSTEM to make the screen's ..and transistors are used in amplifiers the group of transistors make an amplifier . and we use a diode in seven segment display ....diode is small and carry less current due to its small size but transistor get large current. A2 A diode has two connections. It allows current to flow in one direction and not in the other. They are used for rectification in power supplies, detection of AM radio, blocking of current etc. A Transistor has three connections. Current is controlled between the emitter and collector, by a small current on the base. They are used as switches, amplifiers and regulators.

Can diode be used as rectifier?

yes ofcourse diode can be used as rectifier but it's an uncontrolled rectification.
