The red wolf's numbers have been falling since settlers came to this country. They were shot and poisoned because of livestock depredation. In the 1970's, the last few red wolves were captured on the border around Texas and Louisiana. They started a captive breeding program, and began releasing them onto several secluded sites in the Carolinas, to see how they would adapt. The red wolf was released in 1987 in the counties surrounding the Alligator River Wildlife refuge in eastern North Carolina, where today over 100 red wolves are once again roaming their old haunts. So how do you think red wolf is endangered? Do you like their butts?
