yes, ignition coil can also be used to energise the Tesla coil very well ,because it is also a type of high voltage potential transformer and it can be used in manner of fly back configuration used this and I'm satisfied that it works same as other H.V t/f just there is need of little modification required to energise it and its output also i.e square wave to sinewave...

Can you use a step down transformer as a step up transformer by reversing the secondary voltage as a primary voltage?

Yes a Tesla coil or ignition coil is an example.

What are the two coils in a transformer?

primary and secondary coilsAnswerPrimary and secondary windings.

How many coils does a autotransformer have?

only single coil is use as a primary and secondary coil in a auto transformer.

What is meant by a primary coil and a secondary coil?

In a transformer, the primary coil is the coil that has voltage applied to it. The secondary coil is the coil that we take voltage from. Transformers are used to step up voltage, step down voltage, or simply to isolate circuits.

How does ignition coil transform low voltage to high voltage?

A: The coil is really a transformer. The 12 enter the coils and charges with current as the point opens up this charge is released as energy about 100 mw. This release is transformed to hi voltage at the secondary by a primary to secondary turn ratio like 1:3333 more or less. Since the primary is open the same ratio will feed the primary that is why we see ringing and the point have capacitor to protect from false firing. <<>> The coil is a transformer, but we know that DC will not work with a transformer. A supply of 12 volts DC is applied to the coil's primary winding. In series with this coil is a set of breaker points. These points are used to interrupt the 12 volt supply from the coil. When the 12 volt supply is interrupted, the magnetic field around the primary winding collapses. This collapsing field induces a voltage into the secondary coil of the transformer. The secondary coil has many more turns that the primary coil and the voltage induced will be in the 10,000 to 15,000 volt range. This high voltage is needed to make the voltage jump across the air gap in the spark plug.

How did Nikola make the Tesla Coil?

He took an alternating current generator, and used that as it's base. Then, used a spark gap and an HAWG capacitor for the secondary energy source. He then used a transformer and an ignition coil to serve as the bases power transmitor.

Who invented ignition coil?

Nikola Tesla

When did Nikola Tesla event the Tesla coil?

Nikola Tesla invented the Tesla coil around 1891. The Tesla coil is a type of resonant transformer circuit that produces high-voltage, low-current, high-frequency alternating-current electricity.

Does a weak battery voltage affect the voltage output of the ignition coil?

Ignition Coil Output Voltage versus a Weak BatteryYes, an ignition coil is nothing more than a dedicated, specialized transformer. As such, the lower the voltage in the primary winding, then the lower the voltage induced in the secondary [output] winding.

Can you use two transformers when building a Tesla coil?

When building a Tesla coil, one transformer is required to complete it. If you want to build the power by adding up another transformer to the coil, I would advice you to go by the plan established before by Nikola Tesla that was brought down in generations. First, building a coil, is something you shouldn't do if your electrical experience or knowable is not advanced.
