Best Answer

The boiler heats water into steam. The steam is pressurized and fed into a turbine which causes it to rotate. As the steam turbine rotates, the connected generator rotates and produces electricity. Make Sense???

What you are describing is probably an alternator driven by a steam turbine, which consists of a horizontal shaft supporting turbine blades, arranged radially, along its length -rather like a jet engine. Dry, superheated, steam (i.e. steam heated beyond 100 degrees Celsius) is admitted through an inlet at one end of the turbine and makes its way along the length of the turbine, where it is expelled through an outlet into a condenser, where the steam is condensed into water. The passage of the steam causes the turbine to rotate at high speed. The energy produced by the turbine is a function of the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the turbine. The steam turbine can be described as the 'prime mover' for the alternator.

Is steam reversible?

Yes. Steam is produced in a steam generator (boiler), used to power an engine (or turbine), condensed, and returned to the boiler as feedwater.

What is the difference between a steam boiler and steam generator?

boiler use many type of working fluids like water, Mercury, liquid sodium, etc., but steam generator works only with water as working fluid. hence all steam generator are boilers but all boilers are not steam generators...

What does a train have that does the same job as an accelerator?

They have a throttle. In steam trains it is a variable valve to let steam from the boiler enter the cylinders to move the piston. The piston pushes a connecting rod that turns the wheel. Unlike cars, it is operated with your hands. In modern diesel trains the engine turns a generator to make electricity. The throttle is a lever that controls the electricy from the generator to the electric motors in the wheels.
