If you want to use less water per flush, you put a brick in the bottom of the tank. You do not want to reduce the height of the water in the tank so much as use less water per flush.

How many years will a toilet last before you have to replace it?

It is hard to say it would have to depend on the toilet you are using. A toilet bowl and tank could last virtually forever if not physically damaged. However, the flush valve, supply tube and stopcock often develop leaks after 10 years or so, and might need to be replaced, or parts of them might need to be replaced. This is often due to the build up hard water deposits and/or normal wear from use. Also, the bowl can become stained from iron and other minerals, making it less than attractive, and even dirty looking, which is often a reason for replacement. Keep in mind, too, that today's toilets use considerably less water than older ones - another reason for early replacement.

Why does your Toilet bowl fill all the way up then drains quickly then finishes with a gurgle?

Usually this happens when a clog is moved suddenly by the weight of water bearing down on it.If this happens all the time then you have a problem. Either there's a clog in the line, or your drain line is not up to the task.If females are using the toilet to dispose of sanitary napkins, show them where the trash can is. (You wouldn't believe the clogged lines ....)If it happens following defecation then try using less toilet paper, or flushing more often throughout the process. If it happens following urination also, then call a plumber or roto-rooter.

Can you connect a new toilet to an older toilet vent?

Yes if the vent pipe is 4" and vertical by code and there is nothing connected between your toilet tee and where you would connect your new toilet tee. If not worried about codes then yes you can connect to a 3" vent line if no other vent lines are connected down stream. If you have a vent pipe that is less then 3" and or you have other vents connected between your old toilet tee and your new toilet tee then NO you can not connect a new tee for your toilet.

What class lever is a toilet?

Oh, dude, a toilet is a classic example of a class 2 lever. You know, like those fancy seesaws on the playground? The effort you put in (pushing down the handle) is way less than the load it can handle (flushing away all your problems). So next time you're on the throne, just remember you're basically a physics master.

How is a toilet sanitary?

A toilet maintains its sanitary condition by means of a water seal- -the clean water at the bottom of the bowl keeps odors away and bacteria at an acceptable level. The water stays in the bowl because a toilet has a trap like all other fixtures. The trap is visible on some toilets and the link below shows the basic design of the toilet. When water is released into the bowl (when the flush handle is activated) the water and all material in the bowl "overflow" out of the trap and create a siphon. The siphon pulls all of the water out of the bowl and then is broken when it sucks air (that gurgling sound after you flush.) Current law mandates the following conditions.1- Toilet must be made of smooth impervious material.2- Toilet must have acid resistant finish.3- Toilet must flush with 1.6 Gallons per flush or less.4- Toilet must have a non mechanical seal5- Toilet must evacuate at least 95% of the water (objectionable material) every flushhttp://www.homerepairforum.com/images/uploads/2005-9-10_Toilet_Bowl_FLUSH_STEP_1_w550.JPG

Why does a paper bowl float in water?

A paper bowl floats in water because the density of the paper material is less than the density of water. This means that the weight of the water displaced by the bowl is greater than the weight of the bowl itself, causing it to float.

How much water does a toilet cistern hold?

a toilet cistern holds 3216Most modern toilets will hold about 20 litres, but they are being made smaller all the time due to better flushing designs and the need to conserve water. Toilets can all be adjusted internally on the fill valve to hold less water. The new recommended flush amounts in many countries is 13 or 6.5 litres.

What is causing your toilet bowl to keep releasing slow water flow after or before flushing it and how can you fix it?

Take off the back of the toilet. Look down to the bottom and you'll see a flap that is raised when you flush it. That flap is leaking. IF the toilet is old I strongly recommend the Gerber viper toilet. Inexpensive and works great.ANS 2 - change the flapper valve - takes about 5 minutes and costs less than $5

How do airline toilets work?

A gap in the base of the sewer line opens up and a vacuum in the sewer is activated. It sucks the stuff in the bowl down into the septic tank, and then blue sanitizing fluid comes out in place of water and rinses out and cleans the toilet bowl. (About 2 liters, or 1/2 a gallon, of blue fluid is used)
